Was having conversation with mom the other day, and she was telling me how simple life used to be when she was kid. There wasn't any TV, no mobiles, no modern entertainment, all people used to water their gardens in evening and kids used to play around together. Neighbors were really very close to each other, and it was good time.
Its so different from what we have saw, even I remember old PTV days, when we used to watch drama at 8 o'clock and streets gets deserted when "Unkahe" etc were aired. When we used to rent out VCR cassettes to watch on weekend. When we whole family used to enjoy chilled mangos in backyard during load sheddings. Everything was simple from food to dressing, we used not to have food chain restaurants and concept of brands.
Things have changed so quickly and its all so different, seems like we will be having same culture of old age homes and day care centers very soon, as culture of everybody busy in their lives is already there. We dont get a chance to talk our parents but we are in touch with our friends through internet or mobile all the time. We dont have time to stop and say hi to our grandparents once in months but can spend countless hour on orkut or myspace to fill scrap books of our friends or to send 100 sms a day.
Why are we becoming so self centered? Is it technology, that is to be blamed for occupying us so much that we forget people around us? Can't life be simple again, when we dont have all means of entertainment but we were happy and contented with our lives, our standards.
We are becoming part of never ending race, we are forgetting difference between need and luxury. We forget to be contented in what we have, who we are and what should be important for us.
